BANBURY may have recorded a historic league and cup double, but head coach James Kerr has set his side one last target this season – to break the 100-point mark.

A 29-24 victory over Pinley on Saturday helped Bulls clinch the Midlands 2 West (South) title with a game to spare.

It added to their Oxfordshire Cup triumph just over two weeks previously, helping the club achieve such a double for the first time in their history.

But with Banbury on 96 points ahead of their season finale at third-placed Spartans on Saturday, Kerr is calling for a 19th bonus-point win of the campaign.

He said: “Now we have achieved what we have achieved, the question is can we finish the season with over 100 points and make sure we go away with as much of a winning record as possible.

“Five points is the target and it has been for every game this season.”

Banbury have led the way in English rugby’s seventh tier for the majority of the year.

And they find themselves an unassailable ten points clear of nearest challengers Earlsdon.

Kerr added: “Winning the league is really good, a big achievement for the club – it is a historic time.

“We managed to do the double and these seasons are few and far between.

“We must make sure we recognise the achievement and the effort the players have put in.”

Bulls were forced into several changes on Saturday due to injury, with the likes of captain Ed Phillips, Manu Paniagua, Sean Bannister, Jimmy Manley and Matt Goode on the sidelines.

But Kerr was full of praise for the players who took their place.

He said: “If it was not for the depth of the squad we would not have been able to achieve what we wanted to this season.

“Everyone who stepped in had already played and they were capable.”
