HENLEY Hawks found life tough on their return to National League 1 as they were heavily beaten 62-12 by Rosslyn Park.

The hosts, playing on their £1million artificial surface for the first time, put Hawks to the sword.

And Henley’s afternoon was also compounded with the loss of Elliott Cox and Connor Murphy to injury.

Park took the lead on four minutes when Mark Kohler touched down.

Scott Sneddon converted.

The latter was then forced off with a broken ankle, but the hosts were unperturbed by his injury as Jack Gash broke through to score.

Sam Stanley added the extras for 14-0 after ten minutes.

Hawks responded through Robbie Stapley’s try, which James Comben converted.

However, Dave Vincent squeezed over for the hosts for 19-7, and Hawks suffered further blows when Cox left the pitch following a heavy tackle and Dave Clements was sin-binned.

After the break, Park scored three tries in 17 minutes through Adam Field, Hugo Ellis and Henry Robinson.

Stanley converted one of the scores.

Hawks went onto enjoy their best period of the second half and Tom West crossed for an unconverted try.

But there was to be further bad news, as Murphy was forced off after damaging ankle ligaments.

The hosts showed no sympathy and added four tries in 12 minutes.

Field grabbed his second, before Tom Whiteley ran in a hat-trick, with three of the four converted.

In National League 2 South, Chinnor picked up a four-try bonus point, but lost 40-24 at Southend.

The visitors opened the scoring through a penalty try, which fly half Mark Davies converted.

However, Bradley Burr kicked a penalty and then converted his own try to make it 10-7 to the hosts.

Chinnor re-took the lead when Andy Berry dived over and Davies added the extras.

But the home side went into the break 20-14 ahead, when Ian Meads crossed for a converted try and Burr added another penalty.

Meads went over again after the break, before Sam Fombo crossed and Burr converted for 32-14.

Chinnor responded through Thomas Burns’ unconverted score, but Southend sealed victory with another Burr penalty and Sonny Gay’s try.

Junior Fatialofa’s late score, which Davies failed to convert, ensured Chinnor left Essex with a bonus point.
