Great & Little Tew’s Ashley Hubbert has won his battle to get fit for Sunday’s last 16-tie in the Davidstow Village Cup at Avon & Somerset champions Ashbrittle.

Hubbert suffered a severe gash to a leg during Tew’s victory at Parley in the previous round, which they feared would keep him out for three weeks.

But having had the stitches removed, he takes his place in the side for the trip with Tew three wins from Lord’s.

Captain Andy Harris said: “Having Ashley back is a big boost.

“I don’t think he is fit enough to keep wicket, but he is fit enough to bat.”

Robbie Shurmer and Jack Haggett are on holiday, so Mike Darby and Markus Jeacock replace them.

Ashbrittle play in Somerset Shrubbery League Division 1 and saw off Ynystawe (Glamorgan & Gwent) by five wickets in the previous round.

Harris said: “It will be going into the unknown again for us. They are a side we have not played before and it is at a ground we have not been to.

“We are focused on Saturday in the league first and then we will think about this match.

“What we have done really well is bowling and fielding as a unit.

“If we can keep strangling and squeezing teams, then we have got a good chance.”

The winners will be away to Roche (Devon & Cornwall) or Hambledon (Hampshire) in the quarter-finals.

Great & Little Tew: White, Smith, Hubbert, Lloyd Brock, Lawrence Brock, Harris (capt), Bryan, Josh Garrett, Darby, Catling, Jeacock.
