Horspath celebrated the grand opening of their new clubroom on Saturday night.

Club stalwart and secretary Max Eason, known for his majestic square cuts during his playing days, performed a different cut by snipping the ribbon to cheers from around 100 members.

The impressive new building is the result of five months of voluntary work by club members and villagers, with chairman Peter Walker at the forefront.

Eason said: “This project owes everything to him. It is his inspiration and he has galvanised people to do it.”

Walker was pleased to see the off field facilities now matching what the players were doing on the field.

He commented: “Horspath has been considered to be one of the most professional teams in the league, and has gone from strength year in year out, and has kept going forward.

“The one thing they have never had is facilities just as professional off the field, and hopefully now the club has delivered it.

“It is an absolutely fantastic clubroom, and several people from other clubs have turned up and said it is absolutely brilliant what you have done.”
