Former Oxfordshire batsman Rob Williams starred with 56 not out as Preston Capes edged out Cropredy by 12 runs in Division 1 of the Banbury Indoor League.

Williams and Tom Wilkins (33) led Capes to 141-5 from their ten overs.

But Luke Cherry (36no) and Tony Vickers (26) ensured a close finish as Cropredy closed on 129-5.

Meanwhile, Kingstone Bagpuize begin the defence of their Oxfordshire Cricket Board (OCB) Indoor Competition title when they face Great & Little Tew on Thursday.

Bagpuize play the opening match of the men’s competition at St Gregory the Great School, Oxford at 9pm.

Before that, the inaugural ladies’ tournament begins with Aston Rowant facing Oxford at 7.
