SKIPPER Sam Egerton led from the front with a try in Oxford University’s 24-13 victory over the Army at Aldershot last night.

After withstanding early pressure, the Dark Blues went ahead from a rolling maul, finished off by flanker Gus Jones and converted by Charlie Marr.

The Army replied with a penalty, but the students went in at the break 12-3 up thanks to a try from winger Sean Morris after a fine team move.

Scrum half Egerton, deputising as captain for the injured John Carter, broke away to score in the corner soon after the interval, the Army replying with a pushover try. Will Rowlands sold a dummy to run in by the posts, and Marr’s conversion made it 24-8 before the home side had the last word with a second pushover try.

* TRIPLE Blue Sean Morris is Oxford University’s new rugby development officer (RDO).

More recently, Morris has been the students’ strength and conditioning coach.

* OXFORD University will host the under 16 international between England and Wales on Saturday, April 6.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for concessions, with the kick-off at 2.30pm.
