SCHOOL SPORT: Youngsters lose out

Bartholomew School (Eynsham) came agonisingly close to glory when flying the flag for Oxford United in the npower League Under 13 Girls Cup area final.

They were beaten 1-0 by AFC Bournemouth in the decider at Robert May’s School, Odiham in Hampshire, with the south coast club now going on to the regional final at Milton Keynes.

In the semi-finals, the Oxford girls beat Swindon Town 1-0.

It was their second win in the competition against Swindon after beating them 2-0 in the group.

They also saw off Brighton 2-0, Aldershot 1-0, Portsmouth 3-0 and Crawley Town 2-0 as well as drawing 0-0 with Brentford and losing 3-0 to Bournemouth.

Bartholomew had won the right to represent Oxford United after coming out on top of around 30 schools in the club’s competition.
