FOOTBALL: Banbury move up to 12th

TWO long-range strikes saw Banbury United climb to 12th in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division after a 2-0 home victory over Kettering on Tuesday night.

Banbury fully deserved their win and are now just five points off the play-off spots.

They took the lead on 14 minutes when Kynan Isaac latched on to a through ball and fired home from 25 yards.

Banbury’s second, on 29 minutes, had a similar look.

This time, Nabil Sharif received the ball, turned and powered in a 20-yard effort.

Chris Lait hit the bar for the Puritans in the second half, while the unlucky Isaac saw his goalbound effort unluckily deflected wide by teammate Ashley Dumbledton.

Banbury gave a debut to striker Adeoye Yususs late on, replacing their man-of-the-match, Scott Bridges.
