CRICKET: Cherwell to seek EGM

Cherwell League chiefs are urging their clubs to give the go-ahead for an extraordinary general meeting in the wake of revelations that the Hertfordshire clubs are threatening a breakaway from the Homes Counties Premier League (HCPL).

The HCPL is in turmoil, with the potential loss of the four Hertfordshire clubs in Division 1 and the whole of Division 2 East. The Cherwell hold their annual meeting at Bicester & North Oxford on November 22.

But with so many questions surrounding the fate of their own clubs in terms of promotion and relegation should the Herts clubs pull out, everything is up in the air.

Now, in a letter to clubs, Cherwell chairman Clive Ricks said: “It is my intention to update the AGM on 22 November on the latest position and then ask clubs to vote on the following proposal:

“An EGM should be called to consider the repercussions of changes to the Home Counties Premier League as it affects the Cherwell League for 2013.”

The Hertfordshire League are expected to make a final decision this week on whether to break away.

A poll of 24 clubs in HCPL Division 1 and 2 East, and Hertfordshire League Division 1, produced a split of 15-5 in favour of a move to quit.

It will mean a league restructure, is that so complicated that they need to drain hours out of people's lives to sort it out? Just filter up in order of last seasons standings after binning the relegations. It could be really easy i they want it to be. Most players probably don't give a monkeys if they are one div up or one div down as long as they get to enjoy their games.

why should they 'bin the relegations' it would probably leave teams once again struggling in a division that they shouldn't be in?

To replace them with sides that weren't good enough to get out of the lower division that they were in?

Agreed, I don't see a problem with that, and it has always been the case that at least 1 goes down. However, we have the additional relegations this year that should be knocked on the head.
Further to that, if East Oxford are coming in, put them in Divs 3 and 7, not 5 and 9 because that is a waste of time. Then filter up to fill in the spaces. There we are, we have solved the problem without the need for a protracted debate on the matter :-)

So the side that finished Runners up in Div 4 shouldn't go up so East Oxford can go straight into Div 3 not gonna happen.. There have been far better sides than East Oxford starting in Div 5 and working there way through the leagues so put them in Div 5 and get on with it....

Did I say anything about the team finishing 2nd in div 4 not going up?

4 eastern feeder come out of HC Div 1, additional 4 have to go up from Div 2W. Thus Div 2W is 4 teams short, 2 extra up from TV Div 1 and Cherwell Div 1
If the bottom team from Cherwell Div 1 get relegated regardless then Cherwell 1 is 4 teams short.

I'll let you do the maths from there.

the only thing that worries me at the moment is the apathy being shown by HCPL, the tail appears to be wagging the dog! send them an ultimatium so other leagues can plan.
