Guy set to miss five matches

Jamie Guy is likely to miss Oxford United's first five matches of the season.

The striker limped off with a hamstring injury in Monday's 2-1 defeat at home to Portsmouth and will have an ultra-sound scan this morning in a bid to identify the full severity of the injury.

But boss Darren Patterson says that he imagines the forward, who is on a season-long loan from Colchester, will be out for "two to three weeks".

That would rule him out of matches against Barrow, Weymouth, Eastbourne, Wrexham and Woking.

And with no running between then and now, there would also then be question marks about his involvement in matches at Ebbsfleet and Northwich.

"Jamie is having a scan on Wednesday and we will know more then," Patterson said.

"But a hamstring injury - you are looking at two or three weeks, I would imagine, but that's a bit of guesswork until the scan results come back.

"It's a blow, but we are staying positive because we have plenty of other quality in the squad."

Guy's injury could mean a chance for triallist striker Michael Husbands in the Blue Square opener at Barrow.

Patterson confirmed that he spoke with both Husbands and Levi Reid after the Portsmouth game, and will hold talks with their agents this week.

"We'll see what happens then," he added.

Its a blow, but we have a squad for a reason. I'm sure Yemi or Husbands can come in and do a good job. Lets hope its not too serious though.

It is a blow as Guy is the only striker that has looked like scoring so far. Still both Husbands and Reid look like quality players and will be good signings. I only hope Jeannin and Hutchinson's wages don't scupper the deal.

I see all the points re the team game etc but if you don't score goals or ahev someone to score goals then you don't win football matches. Look at last season if it wasn't for Matt Green last season we wouldn't of ended the season winning so many games. Yes it is a team game but goals make all the difference. Sadly Yemi can't hit a barn door despite all his effort and enthusiasm personally if Husbands isn't signed in time I wud be tempted to put Fisher or even move Haldane from the left to play up with Constable. Those 2 look like they can score and to be fair constable doesn't look like he can. He looks more like a player who will set up the other striker and make space for the other striker. If you play Yemi and Constable together it wouldn't suprise me that we only get a draw at Barrow.
