The three people chosen to have new roads named after them on Oxford's Rose Hill estate have been revealed.

Constance Norman, Norman Brown and John Parker were picked from a shortlist by the city council's south-east area committee on Monday.

Mr Parker, a former city councillor who set up youth football teams in Rose Hill, had been left off the initial list of candidates, but was the choice of the estate's residents and tenants' association.

Mrs Norman was headmistress of Rose Hill First School for 12 years and former vice chairman of Age Concern Oxford.

Mr Brown was the editor of the Rose Hill Roundabout newsletter for 29 years and founded the Orlits Tenants' Association.

An oxfordmail.co.uk poll on the subject was last week topped by Sher Afzal Khan, the founder of Oxford's Pakistan Welfare Association.
