MOUNTAINS of Christmas cake have been prepared by a master baker to feed 500 people at a Christmas Day meal.
Julia Atkinson, who runs Happy Cakes in Summertown, has baked a ‘mega’ Christmas cake and a thousand cupcakes for Oxford Food Bank’s Christmas day meal at the King’s Centre, in Osney Mead.
The meal, which will feed families and people struggling financially, is expecting to cater for up to 500 people.
Ms Atkinson said she had used 20kg of fruit, 10kg of marzipan and 10kg of icing to ensure all the guests got a slice of the traditional pud.
She said: “I am lucky that I will be with my family on Christmas Day and can afford to celebrate at home.
“I thought it was nice to do something to support people and cook up some cakes for those less fortunate than I am.”
The lunch runs from 12.30 until 4pm and is free to attend.
