A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal New Year’s Day stabbing of a 20-year-old man at a house party.
The 18-year-old was arrested on Thursday morning at an address in Hackney and taken to an east London police station for questioning.
He is the second man to be arrested in connection with the death of the 20-year-old, who was stabbed at a flat in Bartholomew Court, Islington, north London, at around 8.45pm on Monday.
A 19-year-old man who was arrested later that day remains in custody, the Metropolitan Police said.
The victim has not yet been formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed.
A second 20-year-old man who was stabbed during the same incident remains in hospital in a critical condition.
The attacks were part of a string of stabbings that blighted the start of the year in the capital.
Three other young men were also stabbed to death in unrelated attacks across the city in the space of 24 hours.
A 17-year-old boy and two men, aged 18 and 20, were attacked on New Year’s Eve.
Sunday’s stabbings, at 11.30am in Larmans Road, Enfield, north London, 7.35pm in Memorial Avenue, West Ham, east London, and 10.40pm in Norwood Road, Tulse Hill, south London, took the number of people stabbed to death in the capital last year to 80, Scotland Yard confirmed.
Of those, 18 involved victims under the age of 19.
Five males, aged between 17 and 21, have been arrested in connection with the Enfield attack.
On Tuesday night, another 20-year-old was chased by a group of teenagers in Harrow, north-west London, before being stabbed 10 times in what Scotland Yard described as a vicious unprovoked attack.
He suffered significant blood loss, but survived the assault.
