Swindon companies will have access to a useful additional resource from this week, as Influence – “the business voice of Swindon” - launches its new website.

Influence was formed in 2012, when a group of people from the private sector agreed that the best way to influence decisions on how public money is spent in Swindon is to talk to those who hold the public sector purse-strings.

Since then, Influence’s membership has grown to include major employers such as Honda, Nationwide, Zurich and Intel, small specialist companies, several business membership organisations, the UK research councils, as well as representatives from Swindon Borough Council and the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Economic Partnership (SWLEP).

The Influence Board meets regularly with senior officers and politicians, has enjoyed a constant presence on SWLEP, and engages with a variety of public sector organisations to share information and ideas, and to influence policy on issues that matter to business, including education and skills, infrastructure and strategic planning.

Influence also supports the drive to raise local and national awareness of Swindon as an excellent centre for businesses that are considering expanding or relocating.

The new website, which was designed and produced by Vox PR, who support Influence’s communications, includes links to useful networking and sector groups such as Swindon Young Professionals and commercial property groups, a list of surprising facts about Swindon and a gallery showcasing some of the iconic views in and around the town. It also has a section on the reasons for choosing Swindon as a place to do business and a place to live.

Influence also sources and posts comment on issues such as Brexit and the Autumn Statement by major Swindon companies including Thrings, Zurich, Lloyds Bank and some of the town’s accountants.

The Chair of Influence, Nicky Alberry, said:

“Despite the diversity of board members, we all have one crucial thing in common. We all love doing business in Swindon, and really appreciate how much the town gives us back. That’s not only in terms of economic success, but also in richness of culture and quality of life.

“This new site gives an insight into how we are focused on doing our bit to secure the skills, infrastructure and inward investment that all growing economies need, while also engaging with many talented people and groups that provide the town’s flourishing arts and leisure scene – an essential element of a sound, healthy community.”
