OXFORDSHIRE school pupils will attempt to break the world record for book swapping.

Teenagers at Our Lady’s Abingdon will join a national day of book swapping to try to set a record.

Students and staff will be invited to each bring a book to the school library and take one away between 10am and 2pm on Friday, February 6.

Librarian Barbara Hickford said: “You come to the library, deliver your book and pick one up and, hopefully, everyone will get a good read out of it.”

Mrs Hickford will have to have at least one official witness, who is of no relation, with her for the whole day.

Between them they will have to photograph every person and every book dropped off.

They will then have to send off all their evidence to Guinness World Records, but Mrs Hickford experienced all of this the last time she broke a world record.

Last February, Our Lady’s Abingdon helped break the world record for the most people writing the same story at once.

Around 80 students queued to add two sentences to the yarn each, joining 3,217 writers in 69 venues.

Abingdon mayor Angela Lawrence has been invited to come and join the book swapping in February.

The stunt, which will run nationally, will also mark national Libraries Day, which is the following day.
