PUPILS at Bampton Primary School had the chance to leave a lasting legacy by planting trees.

More than 160 pupils at the school got the opportunity to plant a tree in their grounds as part of the Tree Council’s 40th National Tree Week on Wednesday.

Upper Thames living landscape manager for the Wildlife Trust 42-year-old Lisa Lane, who helped the children with the planting, said: “What we’ve done is create four different sections of the forest area which will signify the four different seasons.

“The children have had a lot of fun planting the trees and we’ve also had a lot of help from other local people.”

Headmistress of Bampton Primary School Carol Phillips said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to get the children to think about sustainability and ecological environments.

“It’s also a lasting resource that we can use and an enduring legacy for the children.”

Ladybird Nursery pupil Nala Hunt, three, said: “The tree went in the hole and we filled it with mud.

“It was fun.”
