SINGERS from Japan are hoping their concert tonight will raise awareness of the tsunami that devastated part of their country last year.

Chorus With Borders will perform traditional Japanese works plus great European classics including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance.

The group is made up of volunteers from all over Japan who want to help deprived children in their home country through music and charity concerts.

Singer Sadako Takayama said: “We are performing to raise funds for the tsunami appeal and we are very much looking forward to the concert.”

The choir will be accompanied by the Trinity Alumni Orchestra, conducted by Antony Weeden, and they will be joined by the accomplished Queen’s College Choir, Oxford.

The performance starts at 8pm at the Sheldonian Theatre in Broad Street.
