A CLASSIC tale of illegal immigrants working on the docks in 1950s Brooklyn is being performed by students this week.
The production tell the story of Italian illegal immigrants Marco and Rodolpho, who arrive in Brooklyn and are welcomed into longshoreman Eddie Carbone’s household. But when Eddie’s niece begins to fall in love with Rodolpho, attitudes quickly change and the play takes a darker turn.
Keble College English Literature student Barney White, 20, who plays Eddie, said: “It’s always a challenge to do such a famous play – everyone has an opinion on what it should be like – but it’s a very exciting challenge.
“We cut our summer holidays short to come back four weeks before term started, and I hope that audiences agree that all that hard work has paid off.”
The production opened at Oxford Playhouse on Wednesday and runs until tomorrow. Contact the box office on 01865 305305 or oxfordplayhouse.com
