OXFORD’S Barton estate is singing with one voice once more thanks to free singing lessons.
Barton Sings! was set up as a six-week project in January 2007– inspired by the success of the Blackbird Leys Choir – which achieved national fame after starring in the Channel Five series The Singing Estate. The scheme was popular and continued long past its original plans, but had to disband later that year due to funding difficulties.
Now thanks to the Workers’ Educational Association and the Adler Legacy, the group is tuning up once more with free classes taking place every Thursday. And the singers are getting ready for a performance at Ruskin College on October 27.
