Enquiry made for iconic Randolph Hotel

OXFORD’S iconic Randolph Hotel could be sold, its owners have confirmed.
Macdonald Hotels and Resorts have received an enquiry for the landmark building but negotiations are at an early stage.
A Macdonald spokesman said: “The Macdonald Hotel and Spa in Manchester is on the market with Christies. Following an approach made about it, the people also enquired about the Randolph and we will look at what they are saying.”
It is not clear whether the potential bidder is another hotel operator or a private individual. But one theory is that the building could be sold and then leased back by Macdonald.
What is apparent is any aspiring owner would have to have deep pockets as the modern Macdonald Manchester Hotel and Spa is on the property market for £50m.
Asked the value of a potential deal, the spokesman added: “Who knows? Enquiries are on the table and discussions are taking place but no hotels have necessarily been sold.”
The five-star Beaumont Street institution, which was built in 1864, has seen its number of bedrooms increased to 151, along with the addition of a spa, mini gym and meeting room facilities.
