DRIVERS involved in a collision on a busy road were surprised when Top Gear star Richard Hammond pulled over to help.
The TV presenter was on his way to filming at an undisclosed location in Oxfordshire when he stopped at the scene of the collision between two cars yesterday at about 9am.
Mr Hammond was on his motorbike with a fellow biker and the pair stopped at the Eynsham roundabout in the A40 Oxford Road to give witness statements to the police.
One of the drivers, who did not want to be named, said: “These two men on motorbikes stopped as they were witnesses and I realised one of them was Richard Hammond.
“He stuck around and helped and talked to the policemen. Then he said bye and drove off. I love Top Gear but I was more concerned making sure the woman in the other car was OK and calling my husband.
“He was saying he had been involved in a similar crash and he knows the shock. He seemed very friendly.”
A police spokesman said no one was injured in the incident. Mr Hammond was airlifted to hospital in September 2006 after the jet-powered dragster his was driving spun out of control during a stunt.
