AS British Paralympians made the country proud on the weekend, an Oxford event highlighted the needs of the city’s disabled.
The Parade for Equality was held at the Iffley Road Running Track yesterday.
Organised by the Oxfordshire Unlimited charity, the free social event saw scores of people parade around the track that saw Sir Roger Bannister break the four-minute mile in 1954. There was also food and entertainment.
Cerebral palsy sufferer Raheem Hussain, nine, said he had been inspired to take part in more sports.
The St Francis CofE School pupil said: “It was super good.”
The youngster, from Cowley Road, plays basketball for Oxford Eagles.
His mum Louise, 39, said he had been inspired by meeting Paralympians.
She said: “It was really good. He thoroughly enjoyed himself.
“Everyone was chatting to him, which made him feel good.
“It just highlights people with disabilities.”
