A GROUP of photographers have seen their work step out from the computer screen on to the gallery wall.

Oxfordshire snappers who met through the photo-sharing website Flickr are currently staging The Botanical Eye exhibition at Oxford University ’s Botanic Garden.

The display, which runs until September 20, showcases work on botanical themes from amateur and semi-professional photographers.

The Oxford Flickr group, which meets regularly at city pubs, boasts more than 2,700 members.

Chris Blizzard, from Kidlington, has two photographs in the exhibition.

The 27-year-old, the in-house photographer at the O2 Academy in Cowley Road, East Oxford, said: “The opportunity arose and I just decided it was worth doing.

“Both the photos were taken in the Botanic Garden – one is of some poppies and the other is of a flower.

“It’s great seeing everyone’s work printed properly rather than looking at it on a computer screen.”

Mr Blizzard said of the Oxford Flickr group: “It’s great meeting like-minded people in the local area and seeing what they manage to come up with.

“There’s a certain amount of sharing ideas and tips but especially when everyone meets up it’s more about the social side of things.”

Group member Howard Stanbury said: “The Oxford Flickr Group is a group of amateur and semi-professional photographers based in the Oxford area who met via flickr.com “The group meets at least once a month, usually in a pre-designated pub somewhere central, and also arranges meet-ups at many Oxford events as well as photography walks around the local area.”

All ages are welcomed with kit from iPhones to top-of-the-range SLR cameras, he said.

“It’s a very laid-back, mixed-age group and there is no joining fee.”
