THREE Olympic-style statues have arrived at a summer camp in Summertown to inspire sporty youngsters.
Kirtlington fitness expert Barry Grinham runs the annual Camp Energy for five to 14-year-olds and about 50 children a day attend the camp, off Mayfield Road.
Mr Grinham sponsored Summertown artist Francesca Shakespeare to create the life-size plaster statues.
Mum-of-three Ms Shakespeare, 50, worked with 200 children at the Ashmolean Museum over Easter to make the statues and cover them with gold, silver and bronze leaf.
She said: “This was an ambitious project and I was delighted with the way so many children helped.
“I hope the statues inspire youngsters to get involved in sports and arts activities.”
Alissa Clarke, 12, from Oxford, worked on the statues. She said: “It was brilliant fun and it’s great to see them finished.”
The camp runs until August 28. For further information, visit http://campenergy.com
