Men deny selling fake designer clothes

TWO men have denied selling fake designer clothes from a city shop.

Oxfordshire Trading Standards raided Labels 4 Less in Oxford’s Magdalen Street and seized hundreds of items.

Shop owner Matthew Croxson appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday and denied seven charges.

His business partner Matthew Brooks appeared at the same court last week and denied eight charges.

The allegations stem from the raid in April 2010.

Both men deny five counts of exposing for sale goods infringing a registered trademark, in relation to nine G-Star T-shirts, 253 Ralph Lauren tops, 66 Tommy Hilfiger tops, 98 Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier tops and 149 Ecko Unltd jumpers.

The duo also deny two counts of possessing goods infringing registered trademarks with a view to sale, in relation to 41 Ralph Lauren tops and 13 Tommy Hilfiger tops.

Brooks, 38, is also charged with an additional count of exposing one fake G-Star T-shirt for sale.

Colin Banham, defending Croxson, yesterday said his client “thought these were genuine goods”.

He added: “It will be suggested these are high-quality garments and not the type that are poor quality and obviously fake.”

Croxson, 42, of Southend, Essex, and Brooks, of Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, were bailed to stand trial on Wednesday, April 25.
