A SCOUT leader has achievement a triple success after being awarded his Queen’s Scout, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and Scout Leader’s Wood Badge at the same time.

George Brooks, 19, from Water Eaton, was given the awards at a ceremony at 33rd Oxford (Kidlington) Sea Scouts’ headquarters on Tuesday.

He said: “I’ve been involved since I was 10, as a cub first and then as a Sea Scout.

“I stayed involved simply because I got a lot out of it and felt like returning the favour.

“Over the years I’ve had a lot of useful advice from the leaders and developed a lot of good skills.”

The Queen’s Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh Gold both involve volunteering in the community and completing treks.

The Wood Badge is given to leaders completing their adult training.

David Eyles, scout leader of the Kidlington Sea Scouts said: “I am extremely proud of George, he joined the troop when he was 10 and is now a leader with many skills, which I know he will pass onto the young scouts.”

The former Gosford Hill pupil, who is on a gap year, will go to St James’s Palace to receive his Duke of Edinburgh’s Award certificate and will meet royalty again on St George’s Day at the annual parade at Windsor Castle.
