AN RAF corporal has been convicted of dragging a teenage girl from a disco and raping her.

Scott Atkins attacked the girl at RAF Benson on January 28 after he had earlier been drinking in the Dolphin pub in Wallingford.

The 28-year-old married father-of-three was a corporal in the Military Provost Guard Service.

Jurors at Oxford Crown Court on Friday convicted him of one count of rape of a 17-year-old by a majority of ten to two.

Atkins had earlier admitted to the trial he had not told his wife about the proceedings. Judge Gordon Risius remanded him in custody and declined Atkins’ request to have time to telephone his partner and explain.

The jury in the week-long trial had heard the victim was grabbed and forced upstairs for sex. After the girl ran away and raised the alarm with friends, Atkins was arrested early the following morning.

He had always denied rape and said both parties had consented to passionate kissing before they led each other upstairs to a corridor.

Atkins will be sentenced on November 22.
