Oxford In Bloom judge Harry Robinson, 72, was stand-in for the star in The Chamber of Secrets.
Mr Harris, who was also 72, died of cancer on Friday. He played Dumbledore, and Mr Robinson stood in where his face was not visible.
Mr Robinson, of London Road, Headington, Oxford, said: "He had a terrifying reputation, but he was a nice man and will be sadly missed. We got on very well."
