Man dies after A40 car crash

A 23-year-old man died today near Wheatley after a car crashed into a central reservation and landed on its roof.

The silver Renault Clio was driving on the A40 from Oxford towards Wheatley when it crashed at around 4.20am today.

The 23-year-old man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital but did not survive.

Three other men, in their early 20s, were taken to hospital in a serious condition. Their current condition is not known.

Police spokesman Victoria Brandon said officers would not comment on whether the dead man was the driver or a passenger.

She added: “That will form part of the investigation and we are not going to release that information.”

Police closed the A40 between the Headington roundabout and the B4027 for Wheatley to launch an investigation into the causes of the crash.

It was reopened at 7.30am.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one has been arrested, Mrs Brandon added.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who saw the car before the crash to contact Pc Murray McLean on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

My sympathy for the family that have lost their son and for those who are in hospital, especially on Mothers Day.
