A round-up of recent cases heard by magistrates' courts in Oxfordshire.
OXFORD
David Oram, 22, of Brake Hill, Oxford, admitted possessing 1.17g of cannabis, a Class B drug, in Oxford on September 19.
He was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £15.
Glen Ramsay, 35, of Cowley Road, Oxford, admitted shoplifting food valued at £1.49 from the Co-Op in Oxford on August 24.
He was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £15.
Jermaine Jones, 27, of Pegasus Road, Oxford, admitted possessing cannabis, a Class B drug, in Oxford on October 31 and failure to surrender to court bail on November 10 at Oxford Magistrates’ Court.
He was given a 28-day electronically monitored curfew.
Scott Cootes, 25, of Bowness Avenue, Didcot, admitted three charges of assault by beating in Didcot between October 20 and October 23.
He was jailed for 22 weeks in total.
Abolfazl Katanforoush, 40, of Bartlemas Road, Oxford, admitted shoplifting a men’s jacket valued at £70 from Zara in Oxford on October 8 and committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge for shoplifting a bottle of £8.99 Gold aftershave from Boots in Oxford on September 19.
He was given a three-month electronically monitored curfew.
Alan Armstrong, 20, of Couldrey Close, Abingdon, was convicted of sexual assault on a female over 16 and using threatening, abusive or insulting words in Oxford on June 21.
He was given a two-year supervision order, 200 hours’ unpaid work and a six-month curfew. He was also told to pay compensation of £750 and costs of £450.
Anthony Willoughby, 37, of Speedwell Street, Oxford, admitted using a car without insurance on April 25, 2007, in Abingdon Road in Oxford and failure to surrender to court bail at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on May 4, 2007.
He was fined £100, ordered to pay costs of £15 and banned from driving for a year.
Roger Radburn, 34, of Atwell Place, Oxford, admitted burglary, stealing a mobile phone, a loyalty card, a handbag and a wallet and debit cards valued at £39.50 from Oxford Student Union on September 23.
He was jailed for 14 weeks.
Steffon Wood, 21, of Normandy Crescent, Oxford, admitted criminally damaging a door to the value of £75 in Oxford on September 5.
He was given 60 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £60.
Deborah Shepherd, 45, and Robert Shepherd, 63, of Roman Road, Wheatley, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a collie dog, known as Barney, between August 12 and September 3.
They were given a 12-month conditional discharge and banned from keeping animals for five years.
They were also ordered to pay costs of £380.40.
Nicholas Klaasen, 50, of Tower Hill, Witney, admitted making a false statement to obtain social security benefit on September 28, 2008, in Witney.
He was told to pay costs of £300 and fined £85 with a victims’ surcharge of £15 Naresh Nahbob, 33, of Sandy Lane, Oxford, admitted possessing cannabis, a Class B drug, in Oxford on November 5. He was fined £35 and ordered to pay £15 costs.
Wojciech Zych, 48, of no fixed address, admitted attempted burglary of Wesley Memorial Church, New Inn Hall Street, Oxford, on November 13. He was jailed for eight weeks.
Elizabeth Jakeman, 51, of St George’s Manor, Oxford, was convicted of driving a vehicle without a valid licence on June 24 on Marcham Road, Abingdon.
She was fined £15 and given three penalty points.
Kevin Dempster, 49, of Brookside, Watlington, admitted drink driving on the B4009 Watlington Road in Shirburn on November 1, having 57mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35mg.
He was fined £300, ordered to pay costs of £85, a victims’ surcharge of £15 and banned from driving for 16 months, reducible by four months on completion of a course.
Kevin Cooper, 44, of Cowley Road, Oxford, admitted shoplifting food valued at £8.95 from Marks and Spencer at Oxford Railway Station on October 10.
He was jailed for 28 days.
Jason Reilly, 18, of Bailey Road, Oxford, admitted failing to comply with the community requirements of a suspended sentence by failing to work on August 6.
He was given a suspended sentence of eight weeks' detention days implemented as a sentence of six weeks.
