Homeless man jailed for perfume theft


A HOMELESS drug user who stole perfume from Debenhams and assaulted a store detective has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Michael Roberts, 29, of Oxford Night Shelter in Luther Street, admitted shoplifting two bottles of fragrances worth £87.10p and common assault on Jack Hart at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Roberts was spotted by Mr Hart at 7.55pm on Thursday and chased out of the store.

Sarah Mckay, prosecuting, said Roberts tried to headbutt his victim and then spat in his face as two police officers came to his aid.
