Hospital staff told health chief is off to new job

THE chief executive of Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust is leaving his role for a new job, it was revealed last night.

Yesterday, after repeated denials from the trust, it was confirmed Trevor Campbell Davis, above, would leave his post for a new role in international healthcare, although the exact details have not yet been disclosed.

Earlier this month, a trust spokesman denied rumours Mr Campbell Davis had tendered his resignation after refusing to agree to the 370 redundancies announced in a £44m savings package.

On Wednesday, a trust spokesman also claimed Mr Campbell Davis, who took up the role in 2003 and is paid between £185,000 to £190,000 a year, was on leave for “personal circumstances not appropriate to discuss publicly”.

But in a letter released to staff, Dame Fiona Caldicott, chairman of the trust, announced his departure.

She said: “I should like to let you know that Trevor Campbell Davis, the trust’s chief executive, has been offered the opportunity to work in a new international healthcare role and I have agreed a period of leave with him while he puts the necessary arrangements in place.

“I hope that these plans will be finalised in the near future.”

She added that Chris Hurst, the deputy chief executive and finance director, would assume the role of acting chief executive of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust from August 1.

However, Mr Hurst is also due to leave in the autumn after successfully applying to become the national finance director for health and social care in Wales.

Dame Fiona added: “We expect Chris to take up this role in the autumn and we shall now begin the process of recruiting a new finance director.

“An interim finance director will be appointed to support Chris while he is acting chief executive and, depending on timescales, I will also be exploring other interim options in case they are required.”
