NUDE punting, naked rugby, and bike riding in the buff are all part of a new calendar from Oxford University students.

Oxford Undressed, which offers a “tasteful” twist on a dozen images of traditional student life in the city, is about to go on sale for charity.

TravelAid, an Oxford-based organisation which enables groups of students to provide aid in developing countries, is printing 3,000 copies of the calendar featuring a selection of its volunteers.

Former Wadham College student Catherine Little, the charity’s first full-time director, said: “At Christmas, our directors met, and we knew it was a tough climate and we needed to do something enterprising to help realise the success we know we can have, and that’s how it was born.

“The models in the majority are our volunteers. We have about 65 of them. We sent an email around, and about half of them turned up for a meeting. There was no difficulty in attracting models. The interest was tremendous. We shot it in a tasteful way, which helped — we were very sensitive to make sure everyone felt comfortable.”

The calendar features scenes including a rugby game, a revision session in a library, punting, bike riding, and students taking part in traditional end-of-year “trashings”, in which students throw flour and water at each other after their final exams.

Miss Little, 22, said: “With the scenes in public places, we shot them very early in the morning — so we found ourselves naked in a punt on the Cherwell at 5am as it started to rain, and shooting students trashed after exams in New College Lane at 4am. No one saw us and wondered what we were doing, which was lucky.”

She added: “This marks a change in direction for TravelAid, as we try to reduce our reliance on grant-making trusts and try to develop through enterprise. If it’s a success, we definitely want to make it an annual occurrence.”

The £10 calendars are available to order in either academic or calendar-year form at oxfordundressed.co.uk In 2005, a group of Oxfordshire bikers stripped off in aid of the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance. Their calendar, called Bikers in the Buff, was shot on location in Abingdon and Witney. That same year, Oxford Harlequins rugby players got undressed for a calendar in aid of team-mate Nathan Smith, who was knocked down on the A40 in 2004 and had to have his left leg amputated.

The inspiration for Oxford Undressed came from a group of seven TravelAid student volunteers who made a similar nude calendar in 2007. It raised £3,500 for a school in Nepal.
