A con man posing as an electrician stole £200 from a pensioner’s bedroom.
The burglar called at Churchill House in Hailey Road, Chipping Norton, at 1pm on Sunday.
He told an elderly resident he was an electrician and asked the man to wait in the communal area of the sheltered housing complex and leave the flat door open while he got some tools.
After ten minutes he returned making excuses, saying he would need to return another day, and disappeared.
When the resident returned to his room he found £200 cash had been stolen.
The burglar was described as white, in his 20s or 30s, about 5ft 7in tall, thin with dark brown hair or black hair and wearing a dark blue anorak, jeans, white trainers and black gloves.
Det Sgt Craig Kirby, who is investigating the incident said: “This burglary is a good example of how residents should make sure workers who call at your home are who they say they are before they are allowed in your home.
“Always check the identification of any tradesman or unknown caller at your home. If they do not have an appointment, do not let them into your house.”
Anyone with information should contact police 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
