Colleagues last night paid tribute to an Oxford woman killed while climbing in the Lake District.
Kirsty Densham, 35, who worked for educational publisher Pearson Education fell to her death at Westmoreland Crag, on Great Gable, on Friday.
She had been taking part in a rock scramble with two friends when she fell, said a Cumbria Police spokesman.
The incident, which police are not treating as suspicious, happened shortly after 1pm.
The Wasdale mountain rescue team was called to the scene and a helicopter from RAF Boulmer took Mrs Densham to the West Cumberland Hospital, in Whitehaven.
Despite the efforts of the emergency crews, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Last night, a spokesman for the coroners’ office in Cumbria said an inquest had yet to be opened.
Stephen Fahey, the development and technology director at Pearson Education, based at Jordan Hill Business Park, in Cutteslowe, described Mrs Densham as a valued friend and colleague who would be sorely missed.
He said: “Kirsty worked as an editor for Pearson for over three years.
“She proved herself to be an extremely able and valued member of the team.
“She will be greatly missed by her friends and colleagues.”
Wasdale mountain rescue team chairman Richard Warren said Mrs Densham’s death appeared to have been a tragic accident. He added: “Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the lady involved.”
