A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a multiple-vehicle collision on the M40 this evening.

One man is fighting for his life in the John Radcliffe Hospital and another person has been taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury with very serious injuries.

Two others have been taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

The collision, which involved an articulated lorry and a number of other cars, occurred at about 5.35pm on the northbound carriageway between junction nine for Bicester and junction 10 for Ardley.

Police said the carriageway is expected to remain closed until at least 1.45am and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.
