Oxford could be set to get a new waste "hit squad" in a bid to clean up city streets which are overflowing with rubbish from students and houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs).
Town Hall is considering introducing a £40,000 rapid response team under a series of new proposals to tackle problems associated with HMOs such as fly-tipping, side waste and refuse left in alleyways.
The hit squad will operate during university term-times in order to tackle the city's grotspots and improve the lives of residents living next to students and Oxford's 5,000 HMOs.
The squad will be combined with plans to provide 800 free blue wheelie bins for large families and HMOs who are judged to have problems with side waste in an effort to boost recycling.
Oxford City Council's Labour leaders also wants to abolish the £5 bin swap charge introduced by the Liberal Democrat administration in April to allow residents to get a big enough recycling bin or box to cope with their needs.
The matter will be discussed by the council's value and performance scrutiny committee tomorrow.
