Hospitals in Oxfordshire have bucked the national trend - with the latest figures showing the number of deaths involving the C Difficile infection dropping.
The number of deaths from the bug at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury and Oxford's John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals dropped by 16 per cent between 2006 and 2007.
Across all hospitals, nursing homes and hospices in the county, the number of deaths fell by just under 14 per cent in the same period.
C Diff claimed 82 lives in the county's healthcare establishments in 2007, compared to 93 in 2006.
Nationally, the number of reported deaths from C Diff rose by 28 per cent.
