On X (formerly Twitter), the New College Library and Archives in Oxford has compared some of the celebrity outfits - including a blue and green ensemble from American actress Zendaya - to some of their medieval manuscripts.

The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford also weighed in with some hilarious comparisons to their collections.

The museum was also inspired by Zendaya's outfit  - comparing the design to ancient Egyptian glass grapes from around 1353-1336 BCE.

But the hilarious thread on X (formerly Twitter) did not end there.

Actor Eddie Redmayne and wife Hannah Bagshawe were compared to a Cizhou type dish from China from the 11th century, while Kim Kardashian's incredible corseted get-up was compared to a gold and leather cased verge watch made in 1680.

What did you think about the Met Gala fashion?

Did the outfits remind you of any Oxford locations or landmarks?
