Misconduct charge over police shooting

A police officer who accidentally shot a civilian worker during a gun safety session in Kidlington will face a misconduct hearing.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said the Thames Valley Police officer was running a training session at police premises at the Oxford Spires Business Park when a bullet was discharged.

The wounded man, who was among 11 control room operators attending the session, was shot in the torso.

He required hospital treatment after the incident on May 30 last year.

The IPCC carried out an investigation. A file was later passed to the Crown Prosecution Service, which decided against bringing criminal charges.

The file was then passed to Thames Valley Police, which has taken the decision to hold a misconduct hearing.

The Health & Safety Executive is continuing its separate investigation into possible breaches of health and safety at work legislation.
