Twelve students from Oriel College are set to take part in an annual campaign to raise funds for the college's core charitable projects.

The Telephone Campaign will involve students sharing stories and experiences with past members of the college.

The initiative is led by 1975 alumni and chair of the 700th anniversary campaign, Jim Mellon, and a donation of £50 will be made for every story shared by the alumni via telephone.

The campaign has the potential to raise at least £20,000, making a dent in the 700th-anniversary campaign target of raising £65m by 2026.

Third-year undergraduate law student Hani Ali, who participated in last year's campaign, said: "Campaigns like these are all about connecting alumni across generations, and last year I was thrilled to hear so many brilliant stories from the college in years past."

This year, student callers will also be encouraging alumni to support the ongoing refurbishment of the Senior Library.

Alumni who donate more than £500 to this project will have the opportunity to sponsor a book from the Senior Library collection.

In recognition of their contributions, a bookplate will be fitted in their chosen book when it returns to the library in 2026.

Ms Ali praised the bookplate scheme as a "fantastic way for alumni to add their stamp to the college’s heritage" whilst supporting a project that will "keep the Senior Library a world-class resource for future generations of students."
