The lambing season for a globally rare breed of sheep has begun at an Oxfordshire farm and the public are being invited to help out.

Oppo’s Farm in Goring, run by Jon and Lissie Steward, houses several dozen Soay Sheep, of which there are only 900 to 1500 registered globally.

It is a community interest company established to provide the community and veterans opportunities to get involved in running a sheep farm.

The farm is holding its lambing season every weekend from March 2 through to the last weekend in May at Stables Gatehampton Rd, and is offering the public the chance to visit.

Bookings can be made now at online and payments are preferred via PayPal, but cash is also accepted.

Mr Steward is a former soldier in The Royal Pioneer Corps and 23 Pioneer Regiment RLC with PTSD.

He was put onto a business running course by the charity Help For Heroes, during which he decided to run a sheep farm.

He said: "I thought after a while I would like to help others get the same benefits that I was getting.

"So I decided to split my farm in two and keep my farm but use the other farm as a community interest company where nobody gets paid and all profits go back into the farm."

The farm also has a Just Giving page which is aiming to raise £10,000 to allow it to continue its work with the community.
