Sewage overflowed on to a street and on to the pavement outside a supermarket.
The disgusting overspill from the manhole next to Tesco on Abingdon Road in Oxford was reported by a resident on Fix My Street on Sunday (February 18).
They were advised by Oxfordshire County Council to contact Thames Water.
Many of its sewers were impacted by the wet weather over the past month.
A spokesperson for the water company apologised and said they took action as soon as possible.
She said: "Our engineers attended on the same day and found the sewer network was operating as normal.

"Our teams carried out investigations of the network and found no obstructions or blockages disrupting the flow.
"It is therefore possible the heavy rainfall caused our local sewer system to overload, resulting in diluted wastewater to escape from nearby manholes.
"We are sorry to those who were impacted by this and would encourage anyone to report and instances of sewer flooding to our designated customer services team.”
