A CAR caught fire on the M40 today.

Firefighters from Kidlington and Bicester Fire Station attended the scene at J9-8A of the M40 at lunchtime today.

The fire was extinguished with a single hosereel and with the use of breathing apparatus, before using absorbent granules and blue pads to deal with petrol leaking from the car affecting the road.

The hard shoulder, as well as lanes 1 and 2 were closed due to the smoke travelling across the carriageway.
