A NEW adventure playground became a battleground with vandals running riot and setting fire to rubbish in June 1977.
That was the claim of Bullingdon Road residents, where the play area was based, who demanded a council inquiry into why children using it did not have closer supervision.
The latest incident saw mattresses in the playground set on fire and left to burn near the entrance.

Lilian Lock said: "The children walk on the roofs and have caused a lot of damage to offices at the back of the site."
She added: "There is a lot of swearing going on from the children and they seem to be always fighting."
Mrs Lock claimed ambulances had visited the play area about five times since it had opened that Easter.
