Dave Soanes, from Drayton, near Abingdon, won two titles at the Oxfordshire County Championships. Soanes and Dave Buckingham successfully defended their men's doubles title 21-15, 18-21, 21-14, over Paul Casey and Jonathan Campbell.

Soanes went on to take the mixed doubles with Amanda King, of Abingdon, 21-10, 21-18 over defending champions Buckingham and Sarah Torgersen, of Abingdon.

In the women's doubles, Alison Ross, from Chilton, combined with King to win their third title in a row. The beaten finalists were Sarah and Nicky Torgersen, who lost 21-11, 21-9.

King appeared in a third final when, as defending singles champion for the past two seasons, she lost to fellow Oxford Brookes student Chiaki Murayama 21-18, 21-17.

Beverley Lockton shone as the opening matches in the Wallingford Three Discipline League got under way.

Playing for Evenlode C in Division 3, Lockton and Judith Baker were both unbeaten as they surprised their own B team 289-259.

In the return match, the C team again won 281-257 with Lockton unstoppable.

Playing for Evenlode B against Chilton, Lockton and David Prinold kept clean sheets in the 275-234 win.

Oli Edberg and Kath Norcott were unbeaten in Abingdon B's 294-243 victory over Harwell B, while Richard Chamberlain was the Abingdon B star as they upended Evenlode C 290-231.

Division 1 action saw David Ingram lead Evenlode A to a 297-212 win over Harwell A, who also fell 298-235 to Windrush.

In the Wallingford and District Mixed League, Wantage's unbeaten James Barclay and Wendy Joneswith an unbeaten three, and third pair Barry Jones and Catherine Graveney with two wins, secured a shock 6-3 win over Gosford Hill in Division 1.

North Abingdon lost to Gosford Hill 7-2, but succeeded 5-4 against Abingdon, all six pairs losing at some stage. Wallingford were beaten 7-2 by Windrush and 9-0 by Abingdon.

The 41st Oxfordshire Open Championships will take place at Radley College tomorrow and Saturday.

On Sunday, Oxfordshire's 2nd and 3rd sides compete against West Glamorgan and Northants 2nd respectively at the same venue.
