THE FUTURE of the British Countryside will be discussed at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Oxford Centre of the National Trust.

Representatives from the National Trust and the National Farming Union (NFU) feature in a farming and wildlife round-table conversation at the Oxford University Centre for the Environment on Tuesday.

The discussion will explore conservation, food production and the challenges and opportunities posed by land-use policies in post-Brexit Britain.

Among the speakers are Dame Helen Ghosh, former director general of the National Trust and now Master of Balliol College, and Mark Pope, chairman of the NFU's Environmental Panel.

They will be joined by Patrick Begg, the National Trust's outdoors and natural resources director, with the discussion convened by Dr Nick Brown, principal of Linacre College.

Entry is free to the event, which will be held in the Halford Mackinder Lecture Theatre on South Parks Road at 5.30pm.

The Oxford Centre of the National Trust was formed 50 years ago as a University student society, and it has maintained close links with the University ever since.

The university's National Trust Partnership is currently researching aspects of the historic properties across the National Trust's diverse portfolio.

National Trust members have access to coach outings, theatre visits and monthly lectures through the Oxford centre.
