FOOTBALL: Kinch saves the day for Banbury

Banbury United grabbed a valuable 1-0 away win at The Hand Stadium - but only after Tommy Kinch cleared a shot off the line in the last few seconds.

Troy Bryan scored the only goal of the match in the 35th minute, but Kinch had to react quickly to keep Steve Cook's late shot from crossing the line.

Banbury defended well and keeper Matt Dixon was protected so well that he only had two shots to save.

They took a deserved lead in the 35th minute when a cross from Sammy Ibrahim saw Danny Greaves in the Town goal spill the ball and Bryan was on hand to walk the ball into the net.

Six minutes later, the visitors went close again when Ibrahim played a long ball forward to Bryan, who raced clear of two defenders before squaring to Matty Gooderick whose first-time shot was saved.

It was much of the same in the second-half with Banbury looking comfortable as they continued to search for the second goal.

In the 73rd minute they went closer still when Ibrahim was fouled just outside of the penalty area.

From Ady Fuller's free-kick, the ball fell to Gooderick whose first-time volley came back off a post.

The last five minutes proved nervous, and Banbury were indebted to Dixon when he blocked a close range effort from substitute Steve Cook, and the same player then had a shot cleared off the line by Kinch.

Banbury Utd: Dixon, Travers (Beckett 88), Kinch, Jackson, Milner, Fuller, Feely, Blossom, Gooderick (Stidder 84), Bryan, Ibrahim.

Attendance: 172
