AN A-level student who fought cancer throughout his studies had an emotional results day after learning his hard work had paid off and he had secured a place at university.

Cowley resident Said Elehami, 19, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2016.

Despite enduring regular chemo and radio therapy, which left him physically exhausted, he continued to study for his A-levels at Cheney School, determined to go on to study medicine at university.

On learning he had scored a B and two C's to get on to a place at Oxford Brookes University he said it had been a long and difficult road.

He said: "It was really difficult, it was the hardest thing I have had to do in my life, and it was one of those things where you don't really know what's going to happen.

"The staff at the John Radcliffe Hospital have been incredible, all of them, and the school have been really supportive. All of my teachers have been incredible.

"The treatment was very difficult, you are so tired because of the chemo, I would try to lift a few weights but your body is totally fatigued so studying was really difficult.

"That's why I was so worried about my A-levels but it went well at the end of it. Finding out my results was a really emotional moment. I am just really proud of myself."

Following treatment pieces of the tumour remain and he regularly undergoing scans but says he is steadily improving.
