A COMMUNITY social space is on the hunt for a new home in Oxford.
Camerados’ ‘public living room’ will close at Ark-T Centre on Friday, after two years in the Cowley building.
The national charity is based around the concept that the best way to solve the problems in society is people helping each other.
It hosted a free neighbourhood kitchen event each month as well as a cafe open daily with space for people to come and meet.
A message posted online from the Oxford group said: “Ark-T have been a wonderful partner and sister to the movement and we want to thank them for having us here.
“The small team that supports the Camerados movement only had funding for two years to support a public living room here so it is up to the community whether this idea keeps going in Oxford.”
The group appealed for help to find a new venue, even if it means turning it into a weekly pop-up event. Search Facebook for Oxford Camerados to keep up to date.
The space currently occupied by Camerados will be taken oven by soul food restaurant Yemaya’s Kitchen.
Currently based in Wheatley, the cafe announced earlier this month it will be partnering with the Ark-T Centre to renovate and relaunch a flexible eatery at the Oxford venue.
Owner Lavinia Blundell-Richards said she was keen to continue the legacy of Camerados and the community kitchen event would carry on, with the first event taking place on September 7 before an official opening for the new cafe on September 14.
